I attended the Mind Body and Spirit event at the Novotel in Long Eaton on Sunday 1st October and was impressed by the friendly, organised and well- run atmosphere.
It boasted the usual mix of Books, Tarot, Oracle, Spiritual Cards, Greeting cards, Crystal Lamps, Past Life Regression, Fairies, Angels, Pagan and Wiccan items, photography services, Essential Oils, Witches, and Clothing, together with a few surprises amongst which was Rachel, offering Rune Stone readings.
Runes are an ancient form of oracle used by those seeking guidance. They have a long tradition, dating back to Germanic and Nordic tribes, a tradition kept alive by a handful of practitioners today.
“Rune” means mystery, whisper or secret and it’s a form of divination or oracle reading system that is used to help gain insight .
Runes can be made of various materials, but are most commonly made of stone, sometimes wood, and feature a symbol from the runic alphabet on them.
There are various different types of runic alphabets used on runes, with one of the oldest ones being the old Germanic runic alphabet known as ‘Elder Futhark’.
The Elder Futhark contains 24 runes, the first six of which spell out the word ‘futhark’.
Over time this was adapted. In order to use it to write in Anglo-Saxon or Old English, a number of other runes were added to the alphabet, bringing it up to 33. This is known as the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc. The Younger, or Scandinavian, Futhark, which is believed to have been used in Scandinavia until the 17th century.
All of these variations highlight changes that were made as people moved and emigrated to different countries.
As well as each rune symbol being a letter of the alphabet, they also have symbolic meanings too. Although many of these date back to traditional meanings, which would have meant a lot to the people using the runic alphabet, the intention behind the symbols still has relevance today in a tradition often past down within families.
Rachel’s full reading includes a casting, dealing with your questions, a spiritual message and fortune telling including life lessons, destiny, your spiritual path, love work and family.
Each reading involves hand energy exercises, a reading of your story, answers to questions and a detailed exploration of your future. As well as the Rune Stones she also incorporates Chakra crystals.
The casting of the Rune Stones takes you on your spiritual, physical and psychological journey using the energies of the four directions:
North- emotions, awareness focus.
South – spiritual path, inspiration, achievement.
East – wishes, desires, intent.
West – purification, rebirth, changes.
It was a pleasure to meet her and learn more about this fascinating subject. We made an instant connection and I look forwards to seeing her again, and hopefully to working with her in the near future.
